Persephone's Pick Your Poison: Arsenic - SIGN UP BY 3/30

The votes are in, and PPP was tied for top place (with LLL, which we’ve run recently). So, without further ado:

Persephone’s Pick Your Poison: Arsenic (PPPa)

Rules

  • Double elimination
  • Best of 7
  • Medium timer
  • Double KO is a win for both players, unless it would cause both to win the set.
  • Matches will be played weekly!
  • No EX characters (obviously)
  • Match Pick Rules
    • First four matches are picked from the Uneven MUs list, in alternating fashion.
    • Next three matches are picked from the Even MUs list.
    • When picking a matchup, one player will pick the MU, and the other player picks the side they want to play.
    • The higher seed player picks the first MU
    • Each MU may only be picked once in a set.

(If these rules are wrong based on the previous way this tournament was run, I’d love to hear about it).

Signups will be open until Saturday, Mar 30th at 11:59 PM UTC, with opening round conversations going out the next day. Confirm your signup, or feel free to ask any questions you may have here.

Not sure what is meant by “these are the two least played MUs” though. Is that just a typo?

No, no typo. I picked the two least-played MUs that each character is involved in (that met the balance criterion), and then re-sorted by the “first character”. So, for instance, :bbb: has lots of CPs listed, because playing against him is one of the two least-played MUs for a bunch of characters.

Ah, gotcha. So like, “Grave’s two least-played 4-6/6-4 MUs are vs X and vs Y - therefore they get added to the pool of available MUs.”

Yup, exactly. (Although, funny you should pick Grave, since he (and Menelker) don’t have any MUs worse than 6-4 in my data)

Sure, why not, I’ll give this a go.

You should have already signed me

Always a good idea pick Grave!

Looking at the matchups again, I find it interesting that two acknowledged low-tier characters (BBB and Jaina) both feature heavily in the lists, but the beezlebot has lots of low-played even matchups, and Jaina has lots of low-played uneven matchups.

Looking at the data again, they do seem like they are in decidedly different classes as far as bad matchups go.

Castaaaaa! Cool to see you back!

Just over two weeks left to sign up!

Also, if we’re have fewer than 8 people, I’ll likely do a diminishing-swiss style tournament, rather than standard double elim.

Almost out of time to sign up! If we stay with this number of entrants, then we’ll do a diminishing-swiss format (that is, top seeds are paired up, and you’re eliminated from the tournament after 3 losses).

Know what, sure I’m in. Same times as IYL: 2-4 am GMT.

Deadlines are my favorite form of motivation. I’m in, buttercup!

Well, now we’re at 9, which is almost as awkward as 7.

What’s your preferred tournament format?

  • Give me double-elim, or give me death!
  • Codex-ville has some good ideas, let’s trying diminishing-swiss
  • Just gimme my Yomi, I don’t care what it looks like!

7 is much more awkward than 9. 9 is a perfect square while 7 is a prime number.
