[MMM1] Warmup: Akiata (Blue) vs FrozenStorm (White)

Thanks for volunteering to try out an MMM matchup @Akiata! The idea of this warm-up thread is that we play as few or as many games as we’d like until we feel we’re comfortable with how this matchup works, before playing a 10-game series “for real” to measure how balanced we feel the matchup is.

GL HF and during this warm-up phase, feel free to discuss midgame or postgame, or swap sides to help gain better understanding of the different options available!

My Thoughts

I’m pumped to be both reviving MMM1 and playing some White, this should be fun :slight_smile:

Hi what’s mmm

MMM1 is a series of monocolour matches, where a pair of players plays lots of games in a single monocolour matchup, to find out how balanced it is. It’s been inactive for a while, but FrozenStorm’s trying to get it going again.

Incidentally, @FrozenStorm, the main series thread might get more attention if it has the #codex:codex-play-by-forum tag removed, since threads with that tag don’t appear on the main forum page.

I noticed that also @charnel_mouse, I will move it :slight_smile: I will also clear out the sheet of the abandoned past attempts so it’s clearer to folks which matchups need attention

Abandoned attempts that completed some non-warmup games will still be kept in my matchup data.

Well, I’m hoping the Aven can counter the Rambasa twins in his hand, and it’ll be worth going down to 4 cards for. I could have also summoned another mirror, or floated that gold, but I like countering the twins before they can benefit from Safe Attacking.

Not sure about specifying $0 on the Newsman. Might be a bit shortsighted, but I know it’ll help somewhat next turn. He’s pretty much toast where ever he patrols, and with sensei + safe attacking there’s no point in slotting him at Elite, so it may as well be Technician.

Gonna go for an Illusions deck here… see how that goes.

@FrozenStorm’s turn!

Unfortunately, Grappling Hook is one of my best targeting mechanisms, but only works on patrollers. Thus, Aven can be quite a nuisance for White in this matchup.

Pretty slim chance he’s holding Grappling hook, but next turn it’s going to be an issue. I could tech Free Speech, seems like a useful choice for this deck.

@FrozenStorm’s turn!

Mario’s brother Luigi has something to say about protecting his castle… Are you suiciding Quince into the green plumber / ghost vacuum-er? or his Quince just not attacking?

Ah ok. I misunderstood the Rambasa Twins card text, my apologies. That alters my thinking quite a bit. Do you mind if I reconsider my turn?

Not at all, that’s exactly why we’re warming up. Better to re-do turns than re-do whole games :wink:

Aven is killin’ me… Maybe I should have gone IPN and Tower on turn 2/3, and yeah my Birds draw did not line up well here… Oh well. Going to Ninjas and hopefully I can take the fight back. Maybe Grapplers would be better against Truth? Idk I feel like the haste is worth the tradeoff.

Yes, I guessed that it was unlikely (but not impossible) for you to be holding Grappling Hook on your turn. Lucky to have Newsman in hand again.

Good chance of Grappling Hook on his next turn. I have Free Speech in hand, but actually, the Newsman works as a blocker, which I need, so he’ll come out again.

Tech II Truth has some cool stuff!

@FrozenStorm’s turn!

Sorry for not having discard spoiler in order! I’ve corrected that.

Also two things:

  1. Hound can’t patrol if it attacks
  2. It might be a better trade to have Quince kill smoker on your line. With considering anyway (EDIT forgot I patrolled Primus in elite lol, having hound kill Primus would not really be better)

Take a look at my discard and lmk whether or not you’d like to make any changes to your turn!

Whoops, sorry, that was dumb. There may not be such a need to counter Grappling Hook if I don’t have any patrolling illusions. I might play Tax Collector instead of Reputable Newsman if that’s OK, and have Quince hit Smoker instead of the Tech II.

I’ll amend my post above to that effect.
