This starting hand isn’t terribly conducive to an aggressive start, and I can’t put down Poisonblade Rogue for fear of Manufactured Truth. Still though, Vandy is fearsome and should generate strong value. Had I drawn Skeleton or Haunt, probably would have gone with Garth. Almost want to try hero’s hall right now, but I also don’t really want to beg for Free Speech. Sticking a graveyard thins the deck and gives good options.

Zarra rush looks pretty fruitful right now, as does cursed crow beatdown. He’s bleeding himself completely out of cards, I feel like I can beat that pretty easily with just Garth. This patrol sets up best chance of a Nether Drain kill.

This sets up an easy Metamorphosis play, barring any kind of Free Speech. A well-timed free speech + tiger would spell trouble here, I’d have to lay the gorgon and hope to out-draw for tech 3 / meta on the following turn. So I better tech a meta and a dark pact. Gorgon and Exec with Haunt to pick off mirrors, at least, are 100% the right compliments to have at this point.

As last game proved, going card bankrupt for Manufactured Truth plays, especially to level Bigby and not Oni, is not a fruitful strategy for him. He needs to start Oni P1T1 to keep me off a Vandy start.

Thoughts

I think Blue has lots of tools for interfering with opponents’ strategies, but to make the most of them requires good intelligence gathering (i.e. Eyes of the Chancellor). The problem is, I have a tendency to get overwhelmed before I can get that set up, so I thought this time I’d experiment with assigning higher priority to bogging down my opponent than rushing out Tech I units. My plan is to build Tech I next turn so it won’t slow down my Tech II building. If I manage to get free levels for Bigby next turn, I can start recovering card advantage with his max level ability.

lawful search gets you that in the starter, plus if he opens vandy you already know a good pick for reputable newsman is 0. Eyes of the Chancellor is really slow since it’s in t2, and by then you want to be doing some serious damage or be utilizing its invisible for some dastardly shit with tiny basilisks or something.
