Thoughts

I think Iā€™m actually in a good spot. Free speech wonā€™t do anything to either of my heroes, really. Judgment day wonā€™t do anything either. All he can do is spam the board but Iā€™m going to have quite a few units ready to attack next turn. Hopefully I can draw another Omegacron which would seal the deal (unless he uses another injunction, which would be annoying). I was 1 gold short for building tech3 which could have been nice.

Damn, shouldā€™ve known it was too early to play Lawbringer. I definitely need to Lawful Search before deciding what to do next.
ā€¦
Yeah, first order of business is another Injunction. That takes care of the units as well as both teched spells. I could drop Newsman to block Temporal Research too, at the cost of playing Oni. Vir could still get up to his normal shenanigans, but Prynn shouldnā€™t have the runes to disappear anyone else.
If I patrol Bigby alone in Elite, Prynn canā€™t get a new rune safely and fades next turn. Except that, of course, Omeagecron could rush in and swat Bigby aside, leaving my backline exposed.
Hmm, first priority is keeping Quince alive. So Bigby in SQL, Newsman behind him in scav, and Iā€™ll throw Insurance Agent in as another patroller. Then if my patrol all dies Iā€™ll still have Quince lvl 1, a Mirror, and 13 gold next turn. Not enough to copy a brand new Lawbringer, but more than enough to punish a rushed Omegacron.
That also means none of my patrollers pack enough punch to kill holytisponā€™s heroes, so he canā€™t suicide them to bring in Geiger.
ā€¦
After the draw: back-to-back Injunctions! Makes me sorry I put Bigby in SQLā€¦

What a grindy game. I can sac Vir to Omegacron but still canā€™t bring a second hero because of the injunction. Geiger would have allowed me to flicker Omegacron and finish the game. But if Geiger comes when Prynn is out, th base starts flying. Hereā€™s the dilemma /- do I use omegacron to kill Quince or tech 3? Without the tech, he can copy my Omegacron but Iā€™d leave th tech - another gryphon can come. I killing Quince is more important and hipeful Iā€™ll get a seer to deal with the gryphon

"

Virā€™s Mech doesnā€™t have haste. Would be terrifying if it did :fearful:

Wish I had 1 more gold to maxband Quince and get a copied Lawbringer, that wouldā€™ve finished the game. Instead I have to rely on expensive copied Omegacrons. The real bummer is that I canā€™t trade them away (smart of holytispon to take his tower down), otherwise I couldā€™ve brought in a 3rd one and cleared the board.
I canā€™t get at Prynn yet, leaving me still Gryphon-less, but at least I can clear Omegacron. That prevents Geiger from flickering him next turn.
There are plenty of things that could get rid of Oni here, but if things get out of hand, I can always Judgment Day next turn. Iā€™ll even have gold left to play an Insurance Agent.

There could still be a freaking injunction. As well as the flying bastard. I guess itā€™s just a thing that flickering future units doesnā€™t work.

"

btw, it says workers: 4 but thatā€™s because the spreadsheet doesnā€™t know you can have less. Iā€™ll have to subtract one gold from my upkeep next turn.

This has been an awesome, swingy game. Iā€™m holding on for dear life here.
One thing about your hand: you had 5 cards at the end of T10 + 1 from technician when Vir died. Then you played Omegacron, Nullcraft, Fargo, TD and a worker, which shouldā€™ve brought you to discard 1, draw 3.

It seems that holytispon missed lethal last turn: Prynn and Nullcraft trade with Oni, Omegacron hits base to 9, maxband Geiger to flicker Omegacron, hits base to 0.
To keep something similar from happening next turn, I have to take Omegacron out, which I can only do with Judgment Day. I can follow up with Brave Knight, to discourage Prynn from attacking and maybe, finally get my Lawbringer back?
I mean, the saccā€™d workers have to start taxing him at some point, right? Plus his hand is pretty low, and he keeps teching so his deck should be bloated. I just hope I can hold out a bit longer.

Edit: as Hobusu points out, I wasnā€™t in immediate danger of lethal due to the way Forecast works. In which case, Judgment Day seems like overkill against a single damaged Omegacron. Still, I have some hope that my card and worker advantage would help mitigate the inefficiency of that play.

Except that temporal distortion brought sentry back to my handā€¦

Of course, youā€™re right! Sorry, I donā€™t have much experience with that card, so I never thought of that. Iā€™m also just noticing that Knight of the Conclave survives Judgment Day since heā€™s still in the future. I definitely need to brush up on my purpleā€¦

Am I right in thinking that a unit in Jail would also survive Judgement Day? If thatā€™s true, it looks like the only one you destroyed was Omegacron (though that may be worth it).

Yup. You can check out my thoughts in the last turn to see my reasoning for going through with it.

Response to your Thoughts

Wouldnā€™t flickering Omegacron reset its Forecast? If I counted right he only had 2 workers and 2 heroes to sacrifice to it, so I donā€™t think that wouldā€™ve worked that turn.

Response to your response

Yeah, I think youā€™re right about that. The ability says ā€œreturn it to playā€, and the ruling re Forecast says ā€œWhen it would come into play from something other than forecast, instead it goes to the ā€œfutureā€ zone and gets time runesā€. In which case, that was probably a misplay on my part.

I was expecting a judgment day to kill my Omegacron. In truth, I think you just won the game. It seems to me that Iā€™m running out of steam here and from my perspective - this game had a lot of back and forth but you were always ahead and had quite a good control grip over the game. Repeated injuction and judgment day to keep clear, I never really got to your tech buildings, and I played an Omegacron that gave you two cheap Omegacrons of your own - which was a great move to turn my strongest weapon against me, all the while letting me destroy my own economy without even scratching your base. This might take a few more turns, as we are both grinding it but I think itā€™s pretty much downhill for me nowā€¦

Thoughts

I can clear holytisponā€™s patrol with Brave Knight and either Arrest or Elite Training. The first denies a card from holytispon, the second keeps Brave Knight alive and able to patrol. Iā€™m not too worried about holytispon having cards, since after Promise of Payment heā€™s down to 2 gold on his next turn (3 with scav), so Elite Training it is.
Then Bigby can kill Prynn and free my long-gone Lawbringer. To capitalize on its return, I can bring maxband Quince and get a free copy. With Insurance Agent, I can even afford an extra copy, just in case I want to drop another Lawbringer next turn.
For patrol, I have the Knight, the Agent, and Oni, who should be able to stand up to Geiger and Vir. Specifically, if one of them trades with Knight, Oni levels up to midband. And Iā€™ll put the copied Lawbringer in lookout just in case holytispon draws Now!, since with resist 3 he wonā€™t be able to pop it.

GG. Very well played, sir. This game was pretty crazy, and hard to play on the forums (probably would be hard IRL too though). I was traveling and playing in various states of being jet-lagged, but I think it just meant I considered too many possible moves rather than too few. If any of the viewers (or opponents!) have thoughts on what I could have done better, Iā€™m happy to hear because I feel like earlier on I was in a good position but slowly lost grasp as you hammered on and on. I donā€™t think Iā€™m the best Codex player by a very long shot but I do feel like Purple is somewhat disadvantaged vs. Blue for various reasons. Even if Purple has answers to most of what Blue can do, it feels hampered by Blueā€™s ability to respond and limited to relatively predictable plays.

I think we can start the series. Weā€™re already knee-deep in mind games, and I donā€™t know that I have much more to warm up. Iā€™ll probably give as a good a fight as Iā€™d be able to.

BTW, major props for your elaborate thoughts. I havenā€™t read them this game yet but I went over the thoughts you wrote last game and theyā€™re a very detailed and thoughtful account of the strategic options at every turn. Very impressive to read.

BTW, my plan was to flicker Omgecagron and I had just asked the question on the Discord channel and was told that flickering future units brings them back to the future, so I sadly couldnā€™t get the lethal. But I still think that was a good move on your part because you spent 4 gold to kill Omegacron and I sacrified 6 workers so if the game lasted even one more turn this was a good trade, and of course - it lasted at least two.

also, if I traded Prynn, the Gryphon would return and then the Omegacron couldnā€™t hit your base. I was in this spot earlier as well where I would have been happy to trade Prynn to hit with O except that he couldnā€™t hit the base once Prynn leaves play.
