Thoughts

Option one, kill Vandy with mirror cadet. I know he didnt have deteriorate in his last hand, so chances are good it is in this hand, his other dangerous stuff is in the discard. Not sure what he would have workered in the last hand, but the only tech 0 was sac the weak. He has so much money, Iā€™m gonna run into problems soon. Still chances are good this turn that he clears my board, costing him a gold to remove the mirror in lookout, but he could just kill the main scribe and cause the mirror to trash, so I might as well force him to target the SQL mirror. Chances are good my tech 1 gets broken, but oh well.

Gah, 6 attackers, im kinda Borked. Ok, lets see, I can at least play 3 units that are all tech 0. So play one at a time and then see what I get.

Drill sergeant? Iā€™m going with a mirror here because chances are decent I at least get a blocker that is almost as good as the other options. None of his attackers deal 4 damage. He could get to 3 on his 3 skeletons, if it is in hand, but otherwise, im forcing at least some of his attackers to double up.

Of course reputable draws the free speech. Alright, pretty sure this leaves him with not enough to kill quince or take out my tech 2.

He has to draw very deep for free speech, I think my play is to force him to dig it up. Playing Bone Collector only risks a mind control, leaving skeletons in the hopes I can continue pecking him down is going to run dry without another Lord (which I canā€™t dig up while Iā€™m free speech frozen). Iā€™ll bury the DS and Inspector under the deck, and pray his bloat just gets too big. Not likely though, more likely he floods the board and Iā€™m fucked :_(

you did see I have 3 tech 0 in hand and a flagstone garrison, you knew Iā€™d be able to dig a bit.

Technically you tried to build the tech 3 or tech lab before killing the inspector, but it is not relevant to reorder it.

Easier to dig when you have a scribe, apparently.

Thatā€™s game, gg wp! Yea I knew youā€™d be able to dig up a free speech, I just figured itā€™d yield a weaker defense that Iā€™d be able to mow over easier. Idk how I could have played much differently. Probably should teched in Zarra for this cycle so Iā€™d have at least had a shot of clawing back in. Maybe should have gone for a double tech kill on turn 5 to further ward off card draw. You were fortunate to get a Free Speech there for sure on turn 6, seeing how deep your deck was!

I do wonder if you had played it more straight how it would have gone. As P1, I was really worried there for a bit. I do think this map makes blue a little more even, though. Double Tech hit would have been a big problem there, yea. but you would have had to change a lot to get the damage in. I hadnā€™t considered how effective skeletal archery would be at killing oni at long range. Long range trumps swift strike, at least in that scenario.

How do you mean by playing it more straight? I was never going to be able to win against Art of War without either Doom Grasp or Carrion Curse, and I just felt like Carrion Curse was a much more cost-effective way of dealing with it (plus it totally wrecks your card economy). Death and Decay as well is definitely the way to burn blue down. Yea Archery as well I identified early as an effective means of dealing with Oni and just generally forcing you into thinking about judgement day.

Getting a double tech kill was as simple as midbanding orpal instead of workering, so that part wouldnā€™t have been a big deal. I wanted to keep the skeletons and make you spend more on another tower, but in hindsight I should have errā€™d towards ensuring your card economy stayed poor. I would have been much more likely to win that game in the long run, grinding out DnD and Carrion Curses and increasing the chances you wouldnā€™t be able to line up Free Speech draws when you needed to.

Letā€™s run it back and see if P2 proves worse for you!

Really this map doesnā€™t vastly favor Black I donā€™t think. All my ultis are mid-game at best, more late-game in general. Iā€™ll probably opt for a similar strategy of playing around Carrion Curse first cycle, and then ultimates second cycle. Just donā€™t have the gold on the first cycle to make any of them very effective.

Putting down RN does not seem ideal. I could drop aven + RN and make him either spend 3g to wipe my board, or he wonā€™t actually have both sac and deteriorate. if I put down RN +Oni, Iā€™m betting he doesnā€™t have deteriorate, or doesnā€™t care to max vandy yet. Iā€™m betting heā€™d rather build stuff than max Vandy.

Thoughts

Hmm, this is a bit of a problem. I donā€™t have readiness without midband, and he can break whatever with his bone collector and imp unless i level up to midband. I canā€™t build tech 2 cause I donā€™t have tech 1, but midbanding means no tech 1 still, but building the tech 1 will just get it destroyed next turn, unless I skip workerā€¦ Very likely he techs up and I get all new problems.

note we do have a LDT tournament game to start when you are readyā€¦
