Thoughts

Necromancy/Present/Fire… Not sure what to make of that. Seems like a strong early game, but what are they building toward? Token rush? Seems like they don’t get anything beyond doing it mono black. There’s a lot of strong targets for Now! That’s probably it. For the time being, I’ll play defensively, get wide where I can, and focus on developing my own threats.

Thoughts

Sacrifice the Weak is neat on an empty board, but that’s quite a slow opener. I can respond by clearing or develop aggressively to attempt to punish. How much do I fear Garth on board? No teched spells yet, so he’s making tokens and/or casting starter spells. I think it’s safe to let him stick. I’ll use Geiger over Onimaru for Sparkshot to make patrolling uncomfortable and make it easier to capitalize on the free levels to come.

Thoughts

Similar situation to last turn, now they have skeletons to munch on and tech cards to possibly but almost certainly not be spells. Not altogether threatening, but easy and comfortable to clear. They must have had an awkward start, or I’m missing something. This leaves me with no patrollers, but I’m not seeing much haste from their deck in the early game. Worst case would be double Lobbers, which doesn’t stop me from building Tech II. Thinking I can press this early advantage into a quick win via Hyperion.

Thoughts

I love Lobber/Graveyard! Neat early combo that explains the Fire. They had to delay Tech II to do it, though. I’m going to risk overextending to shut it down and keep them from T2 indefinitely. Delays my own T2 by a turn, but with a two-card hand next turn (probably only one, after the imp) I’m unlikely to have a Hyperion, Geiger can cycle if I do, and Heroes’ Hall lets me invest my gold in heroes instead of cards. This is literally my first time ever dropping to a zero-card hand, and I’m bouncing an enemy discard creature at the same time. We’ll see if I regret this.

Thoughts

This match is a full on, no holds barred slug fest and I love it. I’m thrilled that they joined me in zero discard/worker skipping. No matter how this ends up, I can tell I’ll look back on this match fondly, and I’ll be a better player for it.

I’m tempted to put Onimaru in Technician over Squad Leader. Would make him Garth food, but I’m falling behind on resources from patrolling, I could really use the card, and the levels would fizzle. That said, SL Oni forces them to spend resources to clear, and keeping him alive puts me in a very aggressive position next turn. Both Lobbers are in discard, so breaking through would be difficult for them. I’ll keep them on the back foot.

Scavenger Cadet sets up next turn’s Surprise Attack and a two-coster (probably Geiger, we’ll see if I need Fading Argonaut’s extra attack). Kind of telegraphs it, but their options for preparing are limited.
