FWIW usually in situations such as this (highly affecting misunderstandings of rules) we’d allow you to change your turn or techs or both, provided you re-do your draw and your opponent hasn’t taken his/her turn in response. @Bob199 can confirm but that’s how we’ve done all previous tournies

You have bested me. Here’s hoping it’s “weller fought” next time we face off!

My biggest mistake was forgetting that Assimilate can grab buildings. I knew you’d be going for a Garrison, which was pretty much the biggest weak point of my Wrath of God plan. But, like a dummy, I neglected to tech Jurisdiction and Assimilate until way, way too late and never had the initiative to take the Garrison out.

The other big misplay that jumped out at me was not using Vandy’s maxband on Gargoyle to kill River on turn 6. I immediately wished I could redo the turn, and you even offered to let me. But changing my decisions there would have had nothing to do with my mistake RE: rebuilding, so it felt dishonest to take you up on the offer.

Thank you for the experience. Perhaps I will be able to leverage it next round into not being so easily hobbled.

Actually I had no idea assimilate could take buildings. Gotta watch out for that next time. And yeah kill River there would have prevented the discord play which was pretty big as well. @Bob199

Assimilate is a very important card you rarely need to tech, unless your opponent forgets about it.

You had a very good grasp of the rules aside from the buildings thing.

In a tournament setting, it is entirely reasonable to pm the hidden info to the judge. I’m too lazy to do that, and casual games don’t really have a way to do that. For us spectators, maybe you can make a post now that it’s done with each turns (tech starting hands workers) hidden info?

Thank you.

Some part of me is reluctant to show my “inner workings” to the people I’ll be facing off with in the next rounds. Newcomer that I am, my primary advantage is in being an unknown quantity. Buuuuuut… okay! It’s not like there’s anything riding on this.

You just need a couple spaces in there to fix it up (details blocks need a new line before and after in order to render properly)

It’s reasonable to want to hide secrets to avoid being scouted, however I’ve found personally (especially when I was a newer player) that I usually get help and new perspectives by sharing my thought process and tech choices / hands, and I haven’t found cheating to be an issue while in-game. Most everyone that participates in these wants to play the game as intended

If you’d like such feedback, I (and other experienced players I’m sure) would be welcome to give it. This is, as you say, a no-stakes friendly “tournament” mostly for fun (and a little bit pride I suppose ^_^)

T3 and T4 are the ones that are having the issue with missing spaces. The rest are printing correctly in the post.

From what I can tell, you were trying to leverage gilded glaxx’s ability, judgment day, soul stone and forecast to clear and control the board, which sounds pretty reasonable as an overall strategy. Virtuoso haste is pretty rough though, especially when it doesn’t cost cards (which is why graveyard fencers are so scary).

Dark pact is really useful in conjunction with a supply of units. Thieving imp and shadow blade early are a really good way to disrupt the peace engine, delaying them getting the engine online by reducing how many cards they draw and possibly delaying the next reshuffle.

Thanks for the formatting help.

I’m totally down for advice on timings, counterplay, and the like. What I’m less interested in hearing is stuff like “Don’t use Reavers; the community has decided they’re garbage.” I’ve always hated netdecking, and derive most of my enjoyment in these sorts of games from getting good at underappreciated strategies. I was thrilled to note that two of my specs are among the least popular.

What really inspired this deck was the challenge of using Forecast units without Time Rune shenanigans. The first core concept was the idea that Forecast units persist through self-board-clears like Judgment Day, Jandra, Metamorphosis and the like. Immediately on the heels of that concept was the the idea that units which were doomed to die to one of those clears could be sacrificed to Omegacron immediately before the clear. This also applies to other doomed units like the target of Vandy’s maxband: assuming you don’t need it to patrol, might as well feed it to Omegacron instead of waiting for it to die next upkeep.

The third piece of the deck’s core synergy to develop was the inclusion of units that could persist through clears and dooms while actually being in play. This is where Gilded Glax, Gargoyle, Justice Juggernaut, and Soulstone come in. These cards also often allow me to skirt the downside of Sacrifice the Weak. However, as I came to appreciate their place in my deck, Omegacron sacrifices became less palatable/possible. I was relying almost entirely on Hive to provide the sacrifices, which felt inefficient and too easily neutered by Towers. But I realized that the primary obstacle to effectively using Reavers- that is to say, the turn they are In Play but unable to act- could be mitigated with a combination of Judgement Day the turn before they land, persistent units to survive JD and protect Reavers on the following turn when they enter play, and Soulstones as extra insurance that the Reavers will be able to begin their destructive volleys. Soul Stones also allow me to continue using self-board-clears without losing any Reavers, and provide the Reavers the minor side benefit of actually damaging their attackers.

My strategy was thrown into disarray this match when I lost my Tech II at the worst possible time. And my misunderstanding of the rules didn’t help. I was left with my Forecasted Tech II picks too slow once cut off in the midgame. I should have better protected my buildings by respecting the threat of Nimble Fencer and prioritizing blockers rather than Gargoyle, which I had teched for the purpose of Hero assassination. And in one of my more spectacular misplays, I missed my chance to actually do that with the help of Vandy’s maxband (which Gargoyle survives). Oof.

Now that I’ve laid my cards on the table (a particularly appropriate phrase in this context), there’s no reason for me to hold back from practicing this codex or my other codex- [Growth]/Strength/Disease- in some casual play-by-post games. Silver lining!

(Salrane and I only have time for one realspace match a day, if that, and it leaves almost no time for Overwatch.)

I’d be willing to play out casual matches with you, @skitter or @Salrane

Oh good, you don’t have to use this ridiculous capitalization for the tag to function. The seemingly random capitalization of some gaming handles always bothered me, so it was very much out of character for me to use it in the FPS I adopted this battletag for. However! I realized that, with this capitalization, the word “Killer” hides within “sKiTTer,” which was just too appropriate for both my playstyle in that video game as well as the source of the name for me to pass up.

The downside is that I feel like I have to apologize for its unsightly orthography…

And thank you, that will be nice.
