[Experimental] Persephone vs. Hobusu -- +/- Tech Lab

(from Nudging the tiller - balance)
Alright, @Hobusu, I’ll take you up on that game. I’ll go mono-purple, roll 87 out of 100.

I’ll use white to get in some practice for the tournament. I got 80, which is good because I probably won’t take my first turn until tomorrow.

Opening Hand
  • Time Spiral
  • Tinker
  • Forgotten Fighter
  • Temporal Research
  • Hardened Mox

Player 1, Turn 1

Workers make 4g. (4g)

Discard 3, draw 5.

3 cards in discard

Thoughts

I have a suspicion that Mox is the better play here, per normal anti-white strategies, but let’s see how well this tech-three-cards thing works.

Thoughts

This is the first time I’ve considered playing Fox Primus as player 2, heh. I’m not sure how much I’ll get out of the new Tech Lab, but it seems like I ought to test it… and my opponent already commited to it, so I’m slightly worried that I’d fall behind if I don’t follow suit.

Edit: Fixed Primus’s stats (that’s what I get for not double-checking, whoops!)

Primus is only a 2/2 (writing my turn up).

Plasmodium would be cheeky, but no. Three-card Temporal Research if you don’t kill Fading Argonaut, though!

Thoughts

Didn’t mention it last turn, but Tinkerer and Past Tech Lab imply a time rune plan… At the same time, it’s too early to say for sure. I’m planning to go Discipline Tech II, and I felt that Ninjutsu would pair well with that. The only cards I might want from it are Glorious Ninja and Porcupine… both of which pair well with Mind-Parry Monk, and in theory the latter also has synergy with Focus Master. Used my 3rd tech slot to grab Reversal, seems like it could come in handy.

Tech 1 cards. (2 discard)
  • :pspuzzle: Seer

Player 1, Turn 3

1g from last turn. (1g)
Workers make 6g. (7g)

Remember :codexpasternaak: Prynn Pasternaak for 2g. (5g)
She arrives with 4 :hourglass: time runes.

Prynn conducts Temporal Research for 2g. (3g, 4 cards, 3 discards)

I draw two cards. (6 cards)
  • Time Spiral
  • Knight of the Conclave
Hire 7th worker. (2g, 5 cards)
  • Hardened Mox

Foresee two Knights of the Conclave, “Percival” and “Gawain”. (3 cards)
They will arrive in 3 :hourglass_flowing_sand: time runes.

Exhaust Tinkerer to remove one rune from Knight of the Conclave “Percival”. (2 :hourglass_flowing_sand:)

Warp in a Nullcraft for 2g. (0g, 2 cards)
It attacks and trades with Fox Primus. (

Discard 2, draw 2, shuffle 6, draw 2.

4 cards in hand
  • Argonaut
  • Battle Suits
  • Neo Plexus
  • Fading Argonaut
4 cards in deck
  • Nullcraft
  • Seer
  • Time Spiral
  • Temporal Research
0 cards in discard

Thoughts

Taking only one card here lets me not commit to a hero or to building Tech II next turn. On the other hand, with the extra gold, I could play Argonaut and Tech II next turn. Worth putting Prynn in Scavenger to make that happen? Battle Suits instead is probably fine. Versatile Style can target Nullcraft, that’s interesting, and possibly makes it a good tech against Void Star, but not Hive. I’m probably okay with it disabling Nullcraft but putting Battle Suits back into my cycle would be a pain.

Thoughts

As expected, time rune shenanigans. At least I can shut down his ability to remove the runes for free, but I’m on a clock before things get rough. Only teching 1 to return to normal deck cycle size for this stage of the game; I’ll probably tech 2 next turn, but we’ll see.

Thoughts

I spent way to long thinking about this position.

  • I’m expecting Glorious Ninjas and/or Porcupines, because they beat KotC.

  • Thinking there’s a high probability of Grave teching Versatile Style, because Voidstar is my best bet to clear those.

  • Void Star is still my best bet to clear those.

  • Ready Or Not is an even better combo with Void Star if it was disabled.

  • Thanks to tech lab, I don’t have to commit yet, though. Tech Now! since it’s good no matter what, tech 3 cards next turn.

  • If Prynn dies I’m not getting any cards off of Temporal Research. -> Hero, Seer, Tech II.

edit: had incorrectly listed Fading Argonaut as patrolling when in fact it is dead.

fargo is dead. So is argo in SQL or tech?

@Hobusu Are we still playing?

Ah, sorry! I totally forgot about this (I blame E3, heh). Do you still want to play, or do you think we’ve seen enough of this idea?

I’m okay stopping it here. Want to play a regular game instead?

I’ve got family visiting for a couple of days, so maybe after that would be better.
