Hmm, I might want to switch off purple then, I am known on these forums for my love of purpleâŚ
I can go through your thoughts/techs in a mo and see if I can give advice, but Iâve not very familiar with the blue side of this matchup. Without going through your thoughts quickly, I will say that going down so many cards to break my tech 1 on T3 was probably a mistake. Without continuous pressure, purple can easy bounce back from that, as my cards get continuous value over time (Nullcraft, mox, Battlesuits), and that plasmodium entering a turn later guarantees I have large bodies that you have to play around.
Purple is the king of controlling tempo in a game, and hence trying to out tempo it with one big turn doesnât work too well, its designed to be able to flex and spring back. Blue doesnât really have the aggro required to race it, my tech 1âs are generally just as good value wise but with more tempo so forcing a tech 1 game is not wise. I think you might need to go for a tech 3 race at some point, your tech 2 pressure generally isnât keeping me off tech 3 (as as this game shows, if I can spend 5 gold on a tech 3, and 5 gold on a 4/3 and keep them both alive, then I had so much board control that I could have used any win con, thatâs how control of the board you ceded when you went down on cards T2/3.
EDIT: @flagrantangles actually I found the problem, going back over the game, on T4 I accidentally didnât pay for a stewardess somehow, and that probably tipped the game⌠Given legion has also pointed out to me that I accidently failed to pay for a temporal research in an earlier game, feel free to attribute those losses to me accidently cheating⌠sorry about that.
I appreciate your thoughts. What Iâve learned from observing games is that I have no sense for how how this game (or really any game) operates in a temporal sense. I fundamentally donât understand how choices that players make at one stage affect the game later and Iâm really not sure how to rectify that. I have been hoping that playing and reading would help make that clear to me but instead I just find myself reading other peopleâs thoughts and marveling at their cleverness.
At any rate, I donât mind if you keep playing purple. In fact, Iâve always loved following your games because I think Purple is an interesting faction, especially when compared to the others. Itâs the one I enjoy the most outside of Blue.
I like playing this game, even though Iâm rather deficient at it. Sometimes I find myself getting insecure that people will be bored playing with me because Iâm not at a comparable skill level.
Also, I will almost never catch someone elseâs mistakes and Iâm okay with that. I assume good faith on the part of everyone playing and even if Iâm wrong, Iâm unbothered. I donât invest myself emotionally into winning or losing and that saves me a lot of frustration.
At any rate, if youâd still like to keep playing, youâre next for player 1.

Iâm enjoying these games, really making me respect some of the cards in blue I never really thought were that powerful. Im not sure when it clicked for me, but I rememember being absolutely trashed when I first started playing, no matter what I did, and after a few months I won my first game, and suddenly I could beat people, but Im not sure what changed. I think it was my card evaluation ability and my tech plans, what I can suggest is picking a tech plan before the game and trying to stick to it, often If im making it up on the fly I can tech too late. On the last game you teched your garrison the turn you built your tech 2, which was a good timing with the RS and Draw, but your previous techs werenât set up to support the garrison (apart from the cadet) If I know I want to go garrison, I would want 2 hounds in the deck early on as well, for that cheap cycling, maybe having cut the Braveknight/Elite Training/very early free speach (what spells were you worried about me casting?)
Anyway I still have several different strats in mono purple Iâve never tried/never tried against blue so here we go!

HMMMMMM. Okay, Iâll make a plan ahead of time and see if I canât use that blueprint to accomplish something! I had the same experience with Blue in these games myself. Iâve never been that fond of Injunction OR Community Service but theyâve both done more work than I thought they would.

Thoughts
Letâs go for Truth this time. Shadow has suggested I try racing for Tech III and of the Blue choices, Liberty Gryphons are the best choice. Okay so my tech plan obviously requires all of the usual stuff: Spectral Hounds, Reteller of Truths, Macciatus, and Liberty Gryphons. Free Speech seems necessary to avoid Prynn nonsense. But, in lieu of that, a Spectral Flagbearer could be a good substitute. Eyes of the Chancellor also helps but it is a target for Assimilate. I think I prefer Flagbearer since it also helps distract the Stewardesses Shadow has always collected. Actually, thatâs incorrect. I KEEP MAKING THAT MISTAKE. Stewardesses only target Tech 0 stuff so Flagbearer doesnât help at all. That said, they still help against Prynn stuff and also Geiger stuff. So my techs should maybe look something like: Spectral Hound, Spectral Flagbearer; Spectral Flagbearer, Free Speech; Reteller of Truths, Macciatus, the Whisperer, Liberty Gryphons. Plan created!
