I think the dead stingers cost 1 gold each but not sure 100%. I killed 3 last turn so you should have 2 left, unless you pay for replacements.
Also your base should be at 15 (broke tech 2 twice plus smoker hit it once early on) and tech 1 should be at 4.

Why doesn’t it?
text: Your units get +3 ATK / +3 armor this turn. Excess combat damage they would deal to units and heroes hits that opponent’s base. (This takes precedence over overpower.)
Key is “units”, doesn’t say heroes and units. Alas.
I wish it applied to heroes too because it’s a little underwhelming I feel as it is. I don’t really find myself trying to use it because the cost of setup usually prevents me from having ample units to capitalize with
it’s really good with red starter/decks with hasted units like blood/finesse
