My Thoughts

This is an aggressive start of him, I’am clearly on the backfoot here.
I really want to play the building inspector as it will make his tech 1 even more expensive (3$).
I’m expecting him to tech and worker, so he should have only 1$ left for other actions.
But he could invest 2 gold in grave and with sensei he can attack for 4.
So if he really wants, he can kill my first defender, whatever I do.
I fear that when I patrol with anything he could use grappling hook to pull it in technician, kill it and let me reshuffle too early. Aside from that, pulling out a defender of sql would hurt too.

My options are:
1)Try avoiding to give him exp by playing no hero. As he will be low on gold, it will be even harder for him to give grave dangerous max level. So protect the inspector with porkhand.
This also protects me from reshuffle for sure.
The main problem is that I would go down on cards and I also really want to play the aven next turn. (The aven seems promising as he has not much access to targeting in the beginning)
2) Play newsman on 0 to block grappling hook but I think this is too preemptive, maybe he does not have grappling hook in hand.
3) Protect the inspector with a hero. This is more gold and especially card efficient for me. But grave could spiral out of control.

If he has grappling hook, all scenarios look grim. I neglect 2) and think that 3) is too risky compared to 1).
For patrolling, I put pork as sql, building inspector will not patrol, he has to survive.

My Thoughts

I should have accepted to lose board control and in retrospect I should have simply only hired building inspector and put him into scavenger, saving resources for later.
I guess the game is heavily in his favour now but maybe he overcommits and I recover some value with judgement day but it is pretty obvious that I plan that from the gold I’m floating.
As he has skipped his T1, he probably has teched in spells, probably for grave.

hm… lots of float gold. only thing i can imagine is maxband onimaru? but i got a sword rune readily available. so i don’t have to be nervous about that, do i?

saving two gold to probably tech up next turn

GG, I surrender. I think I’m just too far behind at this point. I just have a tech 1 in hand which I am not able to play. I clearly see now that my turn 1 porky was far too ambitious. You really gave me a lesson on how to be aggressive.

Oh… That was quick.

Want a rematch? Just go ahead if you like!

that is too fast imo. You can still use L search to draw and check his hand, also you can send out the tech0 troop and maybe a hero like quince to get 3 patrollers minimum hero+mirror+tech0

another thing, if you don’t like going down on cards, instead of floating all that gold, you could have hired another unit and put the inspector in tech instead of scav, so hardy would have been forced to give you the 5th card to get past your patrollers and you would have a better board

Thanks for the advice about the technician slot. I think I really underestimated the technician slot when I was about too be overrun. The reason why I didn’t play more units and floated so much gold was that I hoped to draw judgement day for a comeback.

Thanks for the offer, but after I tried out play-by-forum I learned that it does not feel like the right format for me. If there will be a rule-enforced client available in the future, I will be more than happy to take the rematch.
