So far, so good. The Tower was a smart play on his part. I could have broken it this turn, and maybe should have, but I think no Tech I will be more disruptive. I definitely get to build Tech II next turn, maybe going aggressive with Brick Thief, or just play a patroller and try to keep Drakk around long enough to haste a DSA. Alternatively, if I play out my whole hand, I can probably wipe his board again and maybe break his Tech I again. It would leave me low on cards, though.

If I play defensive and build up, he’ll have a hard time being aggressive enough to take out Drakk while still building his own Tech II, so at least I’m ahead in the arms race. Cadets are cheap, though. :unamused:

The aggression from pirate is impressive, max-blood is no joke. I was expecting Oni to live for more than a turn, and the same for my T.1. That said I got a tower out of last turn and pirate went down a card this turn, so I am slowly building up advantages (I think that is how blue is supposed to work).

As much as I wanted to be more aggressive, those mirrors are scary: max Quince + Cadets/Hound would get Drakk eaten. This way seemed to keep Drakk alive (unless I’m missing something). Knight/Hound+Manufactured Truth on the Musketeer could still do it, with Quince going in for the kill, but I can hope he doesn’t have that in hand.

I drew a DSA! If Drakk survives, I can have him kill something and start eating base, maybe even Bloodlust a Tenderfoot or Troq/Jaina.

Sort of feel this was a wasted turn… I could build T.2 but I don’t have the cards teched to justify the expense. This traces back to losing my T.1 on turn 2, where I was all set-up to dump some powerful T.1 early in this draw cycle (which I had to discard) and gear up for T2 in draw cycle after next (~10wrks). Best laid plans… props to pirate

Thoughts

Looking at pirate’s hand was interesting. 2 hotter fires + archer + brickthief suggests a pretty clear game-plan. At 13hp, I can just survive 5 hits from archer/jana (my clock). The trick is going to be putting out enough dam to knock him over before that.

@ascendingPrime Turn fixed to be legal. Great lock-down on heroes, upgrades, spells, units. I should maybe be going all in on your base, but I’m carrying the fruitless hope that 3-costs will one day be available to me again, so I want that Newsman off the table.

I am so dumb. Thanks to @Legion. Can’t even get a second hero out. Nothing but Tech 0, so we’ll throw up a Tower and roll with it. He’ll have to pay dearly to push through my defense, which means he’ll just sit back and go to Tech III while locking me down with Free Speech. Ugly.

If I get hit with Free speech, the only card in my hand I can play is Lobber. If Free Speech+Injunction, then I can’ t even throw up a Troq block. Kudos to him.

Big shout out to Legion for the c
atch with injunction. I’ll be honest when I was planning my last turn I didn’t even think about the injunction blocking the hotter-fires (or hiring a second hero for that matter); that play was specifically about blocking the archer and the newsman-play was dedicated to making the hotter-fires as expensive as possible (both in terms of wasting the shot from jana and forcing the resist tax).

W/ BK out I finally have my early game teeth on the board to start chipping away. That I didn’t manage to get it down until censorship came out is a credit to pirate. W/ censorship down and porkhand next turn that will also complete my lockdown --so all I need to do is draw into JJ and beat pirate in a base-race.

For what it’s worth, I just realized I had lethal: Bloodlust on Archer and Drakk, Archer kills Knight and hits base for 3 (as before), Brother hits base for 3 (frenzy), Lobber hits base for 3 (as before), and Drakk hits base for 3 and game.

Still, I don’t think there’s anything you can do to prevent me from taking it next turn, and this version gives me a chance of causing total annihilation?
