He mentioned the Grave+Plague Lab combo, which wasn’t even what made me go Discipline (though I do love how all 3 Heroes synergize with Plab). He might be sleeping on Sparring Partner’s importance, though I doubt it. If ““Sword Chucker Grave”” is a known combo on the forum, then people have certainly used Spartner’s synergy as well since it’s across the same factions. There’s a strong chance of him teching anti-building. That’s disappointing, but at least Plab has an into-play effect.

Bummer, he (she? I think she mentioned having a husband in another thread, not sure. I should be more gender neutral in my comments, let’s go with they) didn’t take the bait. It’d be fun to have Time Spiral here to erase the Fargo, but that’s okay. Is Skit planning to buff Mox w/ Sparring Partner, and then Lab? I can’t imagine why they’d want it otherwise. I don’t really like this plan, it’s going to go too slow for them. Stewardess and Versatile Style are also strong possibilities, so I’ll put my Fargo in Looky so Plexus gets bounced (if anyone).
Grabbing a Garrison and Cadet for next cycle, planning to tech up next turn as I’ve got a pretty solid wall. Putting Vir out here for better board position and b/c if I misdraw, Vir can fix it.
Workering Tinkerer b/c I wanna keep Plasmo around as a potential draw assist for TR. Not sure that’s the best move but that’s why this is practice
…
Solid, drew Nether Drain, plasmo probably would have been better but at least it isn’t garrison, and it means I can suicide Vir if needed

Teching up, staying pretty safe, this is a solid spot Grabbing one DS to play from Hand (hopefully? Vir help a brother) and another OC, next tech likely KotC + DS [/details]

Oh wait, Origin Story won’t actually keep him from casting anything (unless he doesn’t have the gold to resummon, for some reason). That probably should have been a second Curse.
Give two runes to my Plexus, she smokes your tech 2, your base to 18

[details=My Thoughts]
Nope teching 2x KotC, going to run this deck til I get DS and Nullcraft out…
Well I got DS right away (excellent!) but no Nullcraft (hoodie though), that still gives me 2 runes and if I’m down to give up Vir, I can stop the Plague Lab (which really isn’t a huge deal, but if I can why not do it eh?). So I’ll load up Plexus to break it down, and we’ll hope there’s no Stewardess in hand to delete those runes for me. Next turn we fetch the other DS, play the KotC for runes, and run him over [/details]
Your ordering needs to be reversed for this to work that way, FYI (the thing that deals the killing blow needs to be a -1/1 rune).
It doesn’t affect anything in this instance (nullcraft attacking before the rune gets applied doesn’t matter, it isn’t taking damage back anyway), but say for example if you wanted to use the -1/1 first and then attack with something that would take damage back (applying the -1/1 first to reduce that damage back), you wouldn’t trigger Orpals maxband applying the -1/1 first; It’s gotta come after the attacker takes on the full-powered defender
[details=My Thoughts]
Well, that was unexpected but I suppose I should have thought about it! Still, not at all a disaster, just means I definitely want to dig up this Nether Drain before I fetch DS. Teching the other DS and a Boot Camp to help swing a killblow next turn (this turn goal is just re-break tech 2).
…
Well sadly Nether Drain was bottom deck, one less rune to work with, let’s see how the reshuffle goes… Eh, Nether Drain then Boot Camp. No OCs Oh well, they’ll just both get double runes next turn. At least I didn’t draw DS when I couldn’t play it. Game’s pretty well locked up. Expect I’ll see Prynn next, doubt he’d bring Origin Story but don’t doubt Stewardess is floating in there so I’ll put Fargo in Looky and Garth in front [/details]
Anyway, this is over. The “fun” engine is fully operational and I don’t see myself making a meaningful dent in your board without Tech II. And between this game, my first tournament match, and the PtW.dec I’m facing in round two, I’m seeing why the dominant Codex strategy is card advantage into board flood.
Indeed, Dark Pact, Peace Engine, Zane midband, and token spam are all insanely effective ways of forcing your opponent to either get wrecked on board control or go down on hand size to match, which means less consistent draws, and that more often than not spells defeat for decks lacking good deck speed / card advantage.
Even so, your deck nearly set up for some nasty rune abuse, I was taken aback by how effective that Orpal maxout w/ Sparring Partner was as a response!
GL HF in your tourney games, happy to spar anytime!
Thanks. I appreciate the offer, but I suspect I won’t be doing the whole play-by-post thing anymore. I only came to the forum to ask a question about Shark tokens, after all, and since accepting the invitation to participate I confess I haven’t had a lick of fun despite an inordinate amount of time spent “playing.”
I’m too much of a Johnny (or, rather, Jenny) in a sea of Spikes.
