Thoughts

So, the question here is whether to kill the Collector with Vandy’s attack or fetch in a Shadow Blade. Attacking has the advantage of allowing me to play a Gargoyle, and the disadvantage of making the Imp 4/4, which is much harder to defend against. Guess I’ll use a Blade. Here’s hoping I don’t draw my Gryphons right after the reshuffle.

Thoughts

Discard Hooded Executioner’s annoying, but drawing the Grappler instead is pretty nice. I have a ton of leftover gold, maybe I can go for Tech III? The alternative is maxband Rook immediately. I don’t think I need to, I reckon his best use right now is Grappling Vines for dealing with Gilded Glaxxes. Still, no point taking Tech III yet when I’ve just reshuffled.

Oh, man… I need to kill Rook before Earthquake, but I can’t this turn… not great. Even if he can’t cast Earthquake next turn, that’s a lot of muscle over there. This situation is probably not recoverable, but, well, I’ll see what I can manage, I guess.

I have $1 float, so Glaxx won’t leave to non-combat damage, and Grappler’s ability damage isn’t combat damage, so you need to tap him with an attacker afterward if you want him to die.

We’re rapidly approaching the point where I can’t just sideline units indefinitely. Teching in Appel Stomps instead of Oathkeeper, because I want something that can sideline heroes. Putting the mirror behind is better for me here with Graveyard out, since I’m not sending anything there. Pretty irrelevant with the Tech I down, though.

The Grappler took 2 damage from killing Quince, so the 3 from Vir should finish it off and put an end to Two Step, yes?

No, Grapplers have 5 HP, then Two Step bumps it up to 7.

Alright, I’ll throw in the towel. GG WP! I generally think the threat of Assimilate is stronger than Assimilate itself, and you sure drove that point home this game!

GGWP! Skeleton Archery still hung around long enough to help me survive early game, at least, I just needed to transition to something else later. But man, that early game is still pretty rough. Those Glaxxes keep turning up right when I don’t want them to.

I’ll start a new game on Monday. Same again, or shall I try another deck the model thinks is worth a punt?

Hmm, I dunno, despite the strong early game, I’m not really satisfied with Demonology’s performance in this build… I wanted to perma-invis Quince and let him pull various control shenanigans while never directly engaging and therefore never taking any damage, but I inevitably end up spending my gold elsewhere, particularly on fancy $3 units, and then don’t have enough left to go Meta. I’m thinking of swapping it out for something else, but I’m not sure what yet. I mean, if you really want to keep challenging this build with whatever, I don’t mind, but my interest is starting to wander away from my original concept and towards finding a different compliment for the Glaxx / Mirror combo.

I’m trying to find decks that do well in general rather than versus a particular deck, so if you want to switch out then feel free. Are you trying to win the game with Glaxxes + heroes, or use them to stall to Tech II? Meta is pretty expensive on top of Glaxxes + Mirrors.

I was just trying to use them to stall until I could pull off a 3-hero Meta, without having to sacrifice them to Meta, but they seemed to always either win the game for me through strong early pressure or drag my economy too much to let me deploy and demonize my heroes. Maybe I should try a different approach, or maybe I should jump to another build. I’ll think it over and let you know what I come up with.

Okay, I slept on it, and while this deck does some cool things, there are also a number of awkward aspects to it that are simply unavoidable, so I don’t think it’ll ever do everything I want it to, regardless of how I pilot it. I think it’s still pretty good, but not as robust as I’d hoped, and I think you’ve figured out how to counter it at this point.

I think a better version of the Glaxx engine would be [Law/Truth]/Future, as having an abundance of $3 units means there’d almost always be some juicy targets for Insurance Agents, the draw power, economy boost, and spell fetching ability Law brings to the table would make Free Speech and Assimilate more consistently available, and being able to Manufactured Truth units into Mirror Illusions would allow Quince to permanently convert tech 0-I units into Glaxxes (or beefier units like Gryphons).

Alternately, I kind of want to give [Fire]/Discipline/Truth another try, as I think I’d be able to have more success with it than I did in my early days as a Codex player.

So, that’s 3 builds to choose from, feel free to pick any of them and any deck for yourself. :slightly_smiling_face:
