Well this is feels like a bit of an experiment! I like Rich Earth too much vs Blue not to play it with this split. I’ll worker Verdant Tree as I need all the units I can get now. Ironbark might actually end up being useful vs Blue for once.

If he doesn’t play Building Inspector I’ll have enough gold to drop Max Arg + Merfolk + Tech I. If he plays it then maybe I can use Young Treant to help me spam out more patrollers.

Even if this goes poorly I think it’ll be a pretty fun line to explore.

That looks like huggie’s trying for an Argagarg’s Riches opening, with an extra gold to still build Tech I if Building Inspector comes out. I’m not sure I’m too worried about the Water Elemental, though: Onimaru and Elite Training should help smash through that and Argagarg, with Manufactured Truth making up any slack. So I’m going to delay Tech I to midband Onimaru and go for his base early, if Argagarg comes out then I don’t need to worry about Ferocity and Basilisks stopping an early Art of War.

I should have 8g next turn with this patrol. With Rich Earth and no building tax I just need 4g to Tech up so my combined Tech I cost should be at most 4g. A total of 3g lets me play both and still Tech up. I think Galina is a must, and Centaur/Huntress/Tiny Basilisk makes sense after that. Huntress is good vs Soldier tokens and Air Hammers, the latter are pretty scary now I’ve taken base damage. Centaur is more aggressive but also gives me 3x 3g units in deck which isn’t so good for guaranteeing I can spend my gold efficiently.

I think I’ve talked myself into a Huntress+Galina. I probably want to Tech in a Dinosize next turn so I have an answer to Art of War.

Still not sure on my spec for Tech II, hoping to make a more informed decision after I see his next turn.

I need a copy of Dinosize to deal with Oni, and Circle of Life is a pretty good hedge for getting units on board with unreliable Tech access. I’m playing like this is just a straight run at Tech II to hopefully throw him off my plans. Might not work if he has Lawful Search but still worth a shot.

Thoughts

I can get through the patrol if I sacrifice the Soldiers. If I do, then I need to make sure Onimaru can’t get killed, so I want to play the Newsman too to patrol and block Dinosize / Spirit of the Panda. Polymorph: Squirrel could still be a problem, but the hug0naut would probably then be unable to get past the Newsman. Hopefully playing Elite Training will discourage the appearance of Fairie Dragons, if Basilisks come out then Art of War makes them not a problem just yet. Oh, but a Dragon would let Argagarg or the Prospector hit the Newsman so the feather rune kills him, then Polymorph Oni so the other one can kill him. Better put the Newsman in Squad Leader for the Armour.

Putting in two General’s Hammers, and building a Hall for Bigby to help with draw consistency and card-free blocking. Let’s see if I can close this out.

Newsman and Aven is pretty strong here. Lets see what my options are:

  1. Maxband Cal, kill Newsman. Leaves 2g so either Worker + Tech 1 or Worker + Merfolk. Not sure I like cal being left as a 4/3 here with he Aven still alive.

  2. Spore Shambler + pop Aven + worker. No Tech I kind of sucks as P1.

  3. Rich Earth, Worker, Tech I, Midband Cal, patrol Cal in SQL. This keeps Cal alive, lets my economy start to stretch its legs and lets me get Tech I down for either Anti-Air with Huntress or a Flying blocker (!) with Gemscout Owl.

Ok I think I have to try line 3, but with Owl + Centaur so I have some extra bite on attack.

An Aven, Quince and two Mirrors is pretty horrifying, but thankfully I have the Spore Shambler to pop two of them before they do any more damage. Its a fairly equal exchange, especially if I get an additional gold and/or card here.

Next turn I should be able to get to Tech II. My current plan is Growth for Blooming Ancients in case he tries to go all in on Illusions. Right now I have very little info to work with but Centaur does well with buffs so it seems a solid enough plan. Teching two BAs so I don’t mind if I get a Technician bonus. Was tempted for Feral Strike but not sure if he’s maybe planning Truth with Free Speech backup.

I just have enough to wipe the board, if I’m happy delaying Tech II to do so. Which I think I am. Not sure what to tech, though. Truth’s nice, unless Blooming Ancients come out for mass pops. Peace is powerful, but boooring. I kinda want to go for Law, but Insurance Agents off the back of teching in Illusions isn’t great. Max Quince makes for easy Juggernaut clones, though. I’ll go with, and tech Insurance in next.

Hmm, I could destroy the Tech I instead of killing Calamandra. That would put Huggie really behind on tech, but Cal could be preparing to cast Murkwood Allies, which I don’t have a good response to. Guess the Mirror’s going to have a short life. Arrest should help a bit if Tech I units come out.

I probably should have seen that one coming, but at least the levels whiffed. This turn I’m hoping he doesn’t redraw Manufactured Truth (33% chance he redrew it or draws it off of Lawful Search) as he can’t kill Arg unless he has it in hand. I want to maximise unit creation for my Ancients so Murkwood and Galina seem like solid choices.

Censorship Council seems good for slowing down the bloom, Might of Leaf and Claw would be much more of a problem. I think I need Onimaru out to help protect everything else, so no Injunction. Plan is to just jump to Tech III quickly before the Growth engine gets going, since Growth doesn’t provide good anti-air. Working Aven over Traffic Director, to give me more cards to block my win cards with.

I could play 2xBA but I feel I’m pretty weak to a counter attack at that point. This line builds a stronger board for next turn. He could Mind Control my Ancient but it would be an unlikely maneuvre so I’m discounting it until it happens.

Aiming to explode my board size next turn to generate runes and set up for MoLaC which I need to tech now. Polymorph is a good spell here as it deals with GotG, Juggernauts and even a Gryphon should he aim for Tech III. Guargum should be considered here since beating Law to Tech III is usually pretty effective. A Dinosize and a Stampede would round out target spells for Guargum so we can see how next turn develops and I may just Tech those. Getting rid of Quince remains a priority.
