Pretty confident I can get out a lot of targetted effects next turn, so as long as zhavier doesn’t have another copy of Macciatus I should be OK.

OK, I can’t do much this turn except wall up, but I can max out Rook so his Two Lives kick in on zhavier’s turn. If I leave the scavenger and technician alone, there’s hopefully not much zhavier can play on his turn anyway.
Can Rook patrol by himself? If I put Rook in Squad Leader, and he gets Nether Drained by Garth, he can be killed by Reteller and the mirrors, with the former able to come back into play. If I put him in Lookout, this would at least cost more gold. Or I could put him in Technician, which lets me have draw back up to 5 cards. Given how cheap illusions are, that might be a better tradeoff. That still leaves a 5/5 Macciatus able to kill something, though, so let’s put some chaff blockers in.
… I can afford my whole hand, hasting that Glider would take out Macciatus nicely.
On your Turn 9 I really thought you could make a good swing at me, but not quite enough to put me down, and it also would have meant I could make a counter swing. I managed to drain you of cards and then lock you down with free speech. I got a bit lucky, for sure.
Yeah, I put too much faith in my ability to get out Drakk or Bloodlust, I think I should have teched in an earlier Crashbarrow on turn 4 instead of another Bloodlust and I might have been OK. I’ll put up a first turn tomorrow.
This is such a bad player 1 starting hand that I’m tempted to just open with Rich Earth and hope things improve: both spells, no 1-cost unit to partner with a hero, no Ironbark Treant. Let’s just get Tiger Cub down, if Newsman goes down he can at least take a swing, and a Manufactured copy of him can’t do much to Midori or Rook if I put them down next turn.
Playing Jail just has him midband Drakk and kill everything, damn. Alright, How about Porkhand Magistrate? I’d like to have jail at some point to short out drakk maxband, but alas, not yet

Not much offense from zhavier so far, just some disable ability, so I’m going try to get some Owl income going. This seems a better non-2-cost spell for the early game than Kidnapping or Grasping Vines. If I get an early Circle off, I can take a pick of an early Horselord or Fairie Dragon. The latter can get rid of Newsman for me to start putting some decent spells down, maybe Moment’s Peace if my board’s still a decent size.
… Well, so much for that idea.
EDIT: Ah, and Fairie Dragon can’t target the Newsman anyway. It could target whatever else turns up though, and zhavier might not have much defence left after that.

Hmm, have to see what I can do about that basilisk. Guess I’ll see what happens with a draw and either get out rook and the Boulder or maybe get MT.

Losing the Basilisk still works out as an even trade, at least. Free Speech is more scary than Doom Grasp, so I’m just going to max Midori and take Quince out, and then Zhavier still has no attack down. I could also go for a Young Treant draw, but Rampant Growth just lets me take out the Boulder, and Circle of Life does nothing for me. Besides, Boulder is just one more unit that can’t do anything against an air force, and I’m leaning in that direction anyway.
Hmm, or do I just want to attack the base, and threaten Final Showdown finishing the game in two turns if I draw Rampant Growth again? Too risky with Quince and Garth in the game, I think.
I could also just midband Midori, take out the Boulder with the Panda to spare, and have 3 gold left to put something down. That’s a safer option that doesn’t telegraph my dependence on Midori as much, but I’m worried about that mirror.
… Oh, there’s another line. Let’s compare:
Max Midori, kill Quince. I have 4/5 Midori, 3/3 Cub, 2/2 Panda, 1/2 Wisp, zhavier has 0/6 Boulder, 0/1 Mirror, 0/2 Newsman that doesn’t block anything I care about, 2/3 Porkhand.
Max Midori, Midori and Cub kill the boulder, Wisp kills the Mirror, Panda kills Quice. I have 4/5 Midori, 3/3 Cub, 2/1 Panda, 1/2 Wisp, but nothing in patrol; zhavier has 2/3 Porkhand and 0/2 Newsman, plus an extra card in hand. Manufactured Truth + Bone Collector could take out Midori, but he has to skep Tech II to do that, and I still have a pretty big board. Let’s do it! EDIT: Killing Scavenger gives him enough to do this and go to Tech II, but it’s still a pretty specific card pair, and he’s got a 1/3 chance of having drawn MT again. He could use a Hound, too…
EDIT: Whoops, Panda can’t kill Quince anyway. Hmm. OK, I’ll just risk the Free Speech, it’ll hurt but I can get the Owl set up and go for Tech II.

I can’t possibly keep Quince alive with this hand. I admit I didn’t really expect boulder to live, but I had hopes Oh well. I could suicide quince and maxband Rook, not a terrible idea, and I could skip worker and disable Midori… Still leaves me with no tech 2… might be worth it given my hand
Hmm, that one damage on Midori prevents me from just stalling out with Moment’s Peace. However, zhavier skipped a worker, so I can afford to skip one too, and put down a Potent Basilisk while also going to Tech II. If I stick everything else in the patrol zone behind it, the only way Rook can get past that is with a Thunderclap.
Teching in DeGrey to help set up Final Showdown if Midori survives / in case of Birds, and Colossus for more base kill threat. Probably bringing in at least one Bloodlust next turn to help Midori and Colossus get moving.
… Hmm, no draw on DeGrey, Final Showdown, or Young Treat. If Midori lives that long, I have a decent chance of drawing them all at once.
Just to point it out, but frenzy would negate the boost from Midori midband.

Ok, not the worst outcome. Rook is probably dead here, which is unfortunate, but at least it should take most of his units to do it, with the basilisk left at 1hp, but i might end with a drakk at max and maybe no units…
