Huh, he used poly to kill the Fargo rather then the Void star. Did he not realise that the damage on it carries over and would insta kill it?

Thoughts

Shadow’s doing a good job of keeping me locked down here, I’m just going to have to get down what I can.

… Earthquake is in the next hand, so if Rook survives that ping on Tech II will work out nicely.

Thoughts

Unless I have enough left standing with Prynn fading away and returning my banished units, double Void Stars is probably the end.

Your base is on 19 from the 1 overpower damage from last turn.

and GG!

GG! Going to go through your thoughts, but I really should have brought in birds or some Circled Faerie Dragons to deal with the inevitable Void Stars, and there were some silly patrolling decisions, like the one on Turn 9 that let you kill two units with no benefit.
@zhavier scratch up a win for @Shadow_Night_Black!

very well played, I also love the image of your horde of units about to descend and destroy me, with me just finishing your base in one swoop, feels very red.

Going to enjoy going through your thoughts, very long and drawn out game, with lots of back and forth. It was a lot of fun!

Definitely a lot closer than I was expecting going in, thanks for a fun match!

OK, a few things from looking at your thoughts:

  1. I really should have brought in birds sooner. I’d planned for Rook to be killed early and bring in both Green heroes for their spells, but he lasted a lot longer than I’d expected and I should have made use of that.
  2. The thing about player 2’s advantage increasing over time if I stall the board. I’m not sure I understand this?
  3. As you guessed, I’d not accounting for the Void Star’s damage carrying over if I’d polymorphed it, that could have lost me the game by itself.

The player two advantage seems simple when you first look at it, you have one extra worker, so one more gold each turn then your opponent. This also leads to two futher interesting things, one is that you can build tech buildings earlier (Tech 3 future > Tech 3 Strength, this was one of my original plans, but I never had the breathing room for it) and secondly gold on the field. Assuming both players make a worker each turn, player one always has 4 gold more on their turn, P2 however has 1g more on T1, 2g on T2 etc, so in a longer game, P2 will eventually just have more gold then their opponents. This also leads to small decks for P2 (as less teching needed, the fact you took longer to cycle etc really helped me this game - this is also added to by the fact Im purple, Mox + suits also thin the deck for me I only had 14 cards in total, you had 18 - thats a turn less per cycle.)

OK, that makes sense, I guess I got too focused on which tech level my strategy got going at.

That is a habit I also had this game, both of us were looking strongly at tech 2 and expected to win it there, so expected our opponents to try and get an advantage before then. As I laid out in my first post’s thoughts tech 2 strength vs tech 2 future mainly comes down to who can get their units to stick, and prynn gave me many second chances when that was obviously you as P1 ( and me teching badly, not getting the Void star first)

I think we can both agree the true hero for me was Prynn, without her, I would have been overrun many turns ago…

Definitely, Prynn’s maxband abiliy is something I keep forgetting about and it stings me every time.
