ascendingPrime [mono-green] vs DreamFire [mono-blue]

I’m sorry, I might need to stop doing turns in the morning before work.
Somehow my 2nd and 3rd discard didn’t survive my reshuffle
(my guess is when I added the 2cards from the board I might have pasted
over rather than pasted after)

For now I’ve set up a physical board so hopefully that will help.

Re-drew cards after reshuffle

Thoughts

If I can just draw Free Speech right now with Bigby’s maxband, I can completely shut down ascendingPrime’s next turn. I’ve already got both Censorship Council and Injunction in hand (and Newsman on board), so really the only two things that scare me right now are Cala’s topband and another boosted Allies.
Since the odds are against me, I’ll go ahead and tech a Judgment Day, for use in case of a frog flood.

Damn, I was kind of hoping to have Justice Juggernaut in my next hand. I can’t pass up Injunction - not only will it let Rhino attack, it’ll also allow ascendingPrime to get a second hero. So that’s 3 gold locked in.
I could use the rest to play Juggernaut, but I don’t think it’s the right time. I’m on the verge of being overrun, and in immediate danger of a Cala stealth kill on Bigby, which would put an end to my lockdown of his tech 2. A tower is my only option of keeping him safe - another 3 gold locked in.
For the last 4, I think Censorship Council is the responsible choice, over Brave Knight and worker. With ascendingPrime having 15(!) gold to play with next turn, I have got to limit his options. Plus, it’s something that will survive a likely-to-happen Judgment Day.
Let’s do some math: ascendingPrime has 15 attack on board, 17 if he maxbands Cala. My guys have 20 life total. I could make sure Bigby survives if I patrol Quince, but that invites an easy trade and prevents Free Speech. If he does decide to kill Bigby, it’ll cost him. And I could bring him back on T9(!) for a sudden Judgment Day.

Fun fact, can’t have more than 20.g Next turn will be the first I
ever hit that cap.

ascendingPrime emptied his board to get at Bigby, which I think I’m ok with. Specifically, I think I can keep him contained and beat him to tech 3. Censorship Council stops him from flooding the board with cards, and Free Speech prevents bodies without cards (Cala’s maxband, Arg’s summons).
I expect ascendingPrime to use his turn to build his own tech 3, drop a big tech 2 unit, and maybe summon Midori so that he could maxband him the turn afterwards. I’ll try to keep stalling with Guardian / Injunction / maxband Oni. Would rather not draw Judgment Day just yet…

So I have still never had 20.g in this game kicks dirt,
nuts -I thought I had it. At least Rhino is doing well.

EDIT - ty @Legion, for some reason I got it in my head that both beast and legion would un-disable next turn. But reviewing you are technically correct, the best kind of correct. Added Rhino atk on Scav-Mirror

Offensive option: maxband Bigby + Judgment Day ($10), bring Oni in ($2), and trade Quince for Cala. I’m left with 2 heroes against maxband Midori. Next turn ascendingPrime snipes something of mine from the skies, and either plays Moss Ancient (probably finishing the game) or maxband Arg and a big tech 2 unit.
Defensive option: maxband Quince ($4), Mirror ($2) copies Brave Knight ($3). Knights and Tax Collector patrol against Rhino, beast, Ironbark. Quince might survive, since unbuffed Midori or Cala can’t kill him. But even if I get lucky and draw Lawbringer, I won’t have an existing Mirror to copy it with. And come to think of it, he could easily hit patrol with Midori and kill Quince with Rhino or buffed beast. If only I had Guardian instead of Knight to patrol… or Aven to protect backline Bigby with a stashed Judgment Day…
As it is, I think Option A is slightly safer. A Moss Ancient will trounce me either way, but if he whiffs on it I might get to play Lawbringer first. It doesn’t have an immediate impact without Quince on board, but I don’t think ascendingPrime has teched a straightforward answer for it.

Well that is certainly unfortunate. I guess to quote somebody famous,
“Every being, which during its natural lifetime produces several eggs or seeds, must suffer destruction during some period of its life, and during some season or occasional year, otherwise, on principal of geometrical increase, its numbers would quickly become so inordinately great that no country could support the product.”

Oof. This is probably game, but I’ll play it out.
Midori + elemental can easily kill Lawbringer even without buffs, but if it hides in the backline at least ascendingPrime will have to batter his way through the patrol first. Let’s see, Moss Ancient kills one hero, then Arg+Wisp+squirrels kill the other. And he just gets new squirrels. I wish I had 1 extra gold to patrol Aven in front of Lawbringer… As it is, I might as well worker it. His AA will be gone after this turn anyway.

I’m glad you liked the quote. I remembered it a bit differently so it was
actually a bit harder to track down than it should have been.

I have stamped in hand, so that is GG. I’m 1 dam short of a table-wipe,
so the way I imagine this is that the movie ends with this massive stamped.
Then as an after-credit scene, a lone squirel hops into a rickety cencorship
council, climbs onto a desk where he finds a cigar, and a change takes place
where the squirel stands up on its hind legs, starts chomping on the cigar,
and seems to become a petty tyrant.

Great game, and awesome finish!
You played around my Injunction-spam masterfully, and I didn’t have the means to transition from control to pressure. I find Law tech 2 to be somewhat overpriced, in general, but maybe I just haven’t found the right formula to make it work. And maybe if I’d just built tech 3 earlier (as early as T6, in hindsight), things would’ve gone differently…
I’ve looked at your thoughts, could you explain the cost tallies?

EDIT - I know it can sometimes be tricky to find people at your skill level and I feel like we are on an even footing. Let me know if you want another game w/ different decks + new thread.

EDIT 2 - missed the Q about cost tallies
So this is something I started recently to try and get insight into how efficient my play is.

Backstory: I played a game against Hobusu, where he talked about how he was very disciplined about how much he invested in a particular hero as a way of making sure he was being efficient in the trade. When I heard it, it made me think of the metrics in starcraft where you can see resources mined, resources lost, army value, army size, etc. I’m still working out the details but basically the way it works now is…

Eco is the sum of (workers + techs + non-tower add-ons, building-inspector tax)

Army is the sum of (unit summon cost + hero summon cost + hero bought levels + tower build cost + cost of runes / attachments / persistent buffs)

Kill is the value of the opponents army is taken off the board, so basically like army, but includes free-lvls heros gained + destroyed add-ons (techs don’t count b/c they auto-rebuild) + dam to base. Sacrificed units count towards opponents kill score.

Things that aren’t considered are

  • tech / scav bonuses
  • money spent on card manipulation spells/powers
  • money spent on temporary buff/debuff spells
  • money spent on damage / kill spells
  • damage that doesn’t kill something
  • damage to techs (things which rebuild for free)
…the idea behind not counting these things is that they do not matter by themselves in the long-term; instead there value is captured either in making you take more efficient trades, killing units, or stunting your opponents build-up (all of which are already measured).

Ya I really enjoyed that. I confess I consider blue a bit of an “unsolved problem” for the reasons you identified. You win the game by burning down your opponents base, but blue is all about control (which doesn’t do direct base damage), and it isn’t really clear to me how you are supposed to mix in damage into the control strat (or maybe transition into a damage focus).

The peace plan plays a lot like green (just build up a big enough army to walk over any blockers)

And in the first game you made a good case for the illusion plan, where at T3 with max-quince you can get an explosion of hasted, unstoppable, griffons + mirror griffons.

But for Law…
I think juggernaut might be required. Also, I think censorship council is a bit more double edged than it looks on the surface. While not having the choice isn’t great, only playing 1 card a turn + worker keeps me cycling my deck as fast as possible and keeps me thinning my weak cards, so this ends up being a “seat-belt” that forces me to follow the best practice to make my deck stronger over time.

Yeah, I’d like to have another matchup, but I’ve got a couple of other games ongoing so I want to dial back a bit.

The tallying system is coolץ I might try it for a game or two, even though my natural tendency is to judge the game-state by tempo / board position / control, rather than pure gold value.
