Fun game!

Well as usual you had an amazing opening offense and I was stressed out trying to find ways not to immediately lose. But upon building a tech III building, I knew it was going to swing to my favor if I could ever just start a turn with it not destroyed. Those spicy Reversals certainly kept up some offense, though you never got to a point where you could break 2 tech buildings. My starting hand was super terrible, but I actually had a lot of fun with a Tinkerer/Plasmodium opener which your hero-killing plan didn’t interfere with.

Oh and Quince with a mirror up is a nasty follow-up to all-in hero killing early. I felt like playing a Tech II unit would make your board stronger than mine, which is an unusual feeling! I really hated Quince this game, even though he didn’t get away with much or cast Free Speech.

2 Likes

If I had teched “properly”, I might have been able to hit you with TPoS on Turn 8, but then the Archon would have come out earlier and gotten me, I think, before I could do the remaining 6 damage. Fun fun game!

If you’re up for another game, I’ll switch to [Present]/Strength/Anarchy.

No worries if the week’s busy and you can’t get to it for a while. (:

Sounds great! I rolled a 31 to go first and I will switch to [Growth]/Necromancy/Blood.

I rolled a 47, so I’ll start it up when I get the chance; probably later tonight or tomorrow. (:

Ug, dude! I just thought about your spec! MoLaC followed by Garth bringing Crashbarrows directly into play? Yuck! Or Ancient making Runes from Garth’s maxband and skeleton! Throw it on a Glider? I expect this to be brutal!

[details=Thoughts][spoiler]
So this is @lemaster’s “That’s just DeGrey-ding” deck. I want my 2nd and 3rd techs to be probably 2x Temporal Distortion and 2x Jefferson DeGrey. So I probably want some defense in my first tech and in my first few turns. Tech, I’ll have Taxman for cheap and effective, Boulder for cheap and very effective, but lets him build board, and Argo for not cheap, but a good mix of offense and defense. I probably also want birds, because I’ll want Rook out early.

I really wanted to start with Fading Argo, then have a sizeable defense when I play Rook Turn 2. But I also want to play Tech II on Turn 2, and Nullcraft on Turn 2. Hrrmmm. Nullcraft+Birds sounds kinda awesome, but risks pushing him into Tower, which hurts my monkeys. Or he just relies on Water Elemental to snipe fliers? And is Rook as my only ground body enough defense? Well, I’m player 1, so I should be able to push some aggro, and Nullcraft will take out any pesky Prospector, or maybe help me take out a beefier thing in SQL. We’ll see, but I’ll probably go aggro (big surprise!) and count on Tech I to provide enough D to get me to Tech II…

Alternative: I could play FArgo now, Nullcraft next turn, and forget about Rook until Birds roll around? Nah, stick with more standard stuff for now. I’m floating $1 either way, so I can always change my mind and switch to Mox next turn if Nullcraft looks bad.

Rook opening is tough, I threw some wisps up (that sounds weird) to block so he can’t get an early hero-kill just by dumping gold into Rook.

1 Like

[details=Thoughts][spoiler]
That’s a pretty wicked combination of offense and defense. Nullcraft can’t kill SQL wisp, and can’t kill anything on the back line, and killing Scav wisp helps him more than me at this stage. I’ll switch to Mox.

Since I’m doing Mox, Battle Suits will be a good play. That being the case, I’m going to forgo Birds for a Vystari (as $1 for a 3/2 seems pretty good).

If I take out the Sql wisp, and if he has Rampant Growth, then he can grow the other wisp, sideline SQL Mox, then kill Rook with Arg and Panda. He trades the Panda to midband Arg and get rid of my biggest threat, and still has $2 left over to tech up. So that’s a bad move and I should probably stay on defense… but I’m going to do it anyway. 50/50 chance of Rook surviving!

Really want to Tech II, but can’t pass up both my BCs. Decided to start teching 2 early. Built a big board this turn, hopefully it will be enough to take a turn off for building next turn.

[details=Thoughts]
Okay. Tough choice. I need my Tech II. Argo is the better unit. But if I play Vystari (risking Rook death), I’ll have 2 gold floating, which will give me enough money next turn to play Geiger, play DeGrey, Distort him into a Monkey, and replay DeGrey (or distort the monkey into another Monkey, depending on the draw. I’m going to go cheap! I want next turn to be awesome, even if everything dies!

So, I got the combo! Only sad thing is I also drew Argonaut in this hand, forcing me to choose between combo goodness and Argo. Maybe I’ll Monkey DeGrey, then play Argo instead of DeGrey after. Yeah, that’ll work!

I’m regretting not putting Mox in SQL and Fargo in Scav, so I could have enough money to worker. But I’m happy with the way he has to play a buff spell to prevent BCs from dying against any of my units. And Rook is just bait, really.

So, I drew the second TD off the Technician! I could break his Tech II! And I can worker! It would leave me with no defense, just Geiger waiting to die, but the levels will fizzle, and he’ll probably not be able to break my Tech. Let’s do it!

I’m going to count on TD to get me units (Steam Tank, Grappler, Marauder are all possible), so I’m putting in MS Pass and Mythmaking, which will help the Pass and DeGrey do their things as I move towards a monstrous Oathkeeper.
