Yuck this starting split really sucks. Only Young Treant and Merfolk as units. With his strat being burn my buildings down I need to get blockers in place to preserve my base health and try and not give him free levels. The reshuffle here feels really bad but doesn’t seem like I can do much else from this position. Feral Strike is super deadly with Present/Blood so probably want to aim for that if possible. I’ve also had success against this deck with Immortals so those are definitely in the game plan.

@flagrantangles’s turn!

Demolitions Crew reporting for duty! Buildings are for people who know how to CREATE. I only know how to DESTROY. :wink:

I think he’s basically guaranteed to tech Temporal Distortion, Hyperions/Tricycloids, and Now!. He may also go for Blood which means Crashbarrows and Shoddy Gliders. His Tech II options are devastating which means I need to prevent him from getting there.

In line with that is destroying all of his units every time as he has done to me so many times before. I’m teching Elite Training with a Lobber so that if I get both, I should be able to make a decent impact. Even if I don’t, I currently have a board that can benefit from Elite Training and definitely makes it harder for him to do anything. Also, it’s nice that Brick Thief will survive a turn. I can use his ability. :smiley:

Trying hard to build a board here but he doesn’t make it easy. I definitely want to go to Tech II next turn so need as many blockers as I can get. Being able to counter swing with Drakk + Bloodlust seems like a really nice hedge against his rapidly developing board, and also complements Immortals really nicely. Argonaut for something real chunky at Tech I. If I get the extra gold and have it in hand with Tech I up I should play it 100% of the time.

Alrighty, I have to keep destroying his units so that I can move forward. So far, we’re keeping our board and removing his. We have to be able to destroy his Tech II and keep it down. I wonder if I should I pick up a General’s Hammer. I think we’re gonna keep on with the usual plan. Maybe we’ll branch out with a Tech Lab at some point and pick up some Sneaky Pigs.

The 2 Lobbers and Onimaru are really helping out here. He doesn’t have haste except at Tech II so I’m feeling good about this right now. My board continues to develop. I had to delay Tech II, but I’m not super concerned about that since I’ve got the superior board and I wasn’t gonna draw into a Garrison anyway. On the downside, I’m way down on handsize so we’re gonna have to be a little careful.

I really want to worker here but I don’t feel I can, since I have to dump a bunch of cards just to nerf his board enough that I feel my Tech II is safe and I *need* to draw into my Immortal next turn. I saved the gold instead of midbanding Drakk as I’ll be really surprised if he doesn’t have one of Bloom/Wither/Spark in hand to rob me of that investment anyway. At least if he kills Drakk and wants to Tech up his hand should stay nice and low. If this works out I’m on my way to some time wizard shenanigans.

@flagrantangles’s turn!

As a point of interest, bloodlust on Oni instead of the wisp would have had the same result but left a wisp blocker

Hmmmmm, Bloodlust was a pain in the buns, but I don’t think this is truly terrible. I get to recoup the free levels. On the downside, if he has a Hyperion or Tricycloid in hand, I’m going to be in a world of hurt. In our previous games, he went for Immortals and while those would be difficult, I don’t think they’d skew the board as quickly as the others. That said, I’m not drawing into my Tech II next turn so he actually has a free turn to do what he’d like. :open_mouth:

Well, we made it to Tech II. Now I need to be able to do something against his incoming Peace Engine. Right now I need to defend until I draw enough tools to take the fight to him. Going for Ready or Not to hopefully trap his units in place, which should slow his cycling and let me get real good value from with my well earned Immortal. My main fear here is him being able to straight up kill my base before I can counter attack effectively. He probably isn’t far off 17 damage with Jaina in the mix and up to 8 damage from looping Wrecking Balls. If I don’t seize board control in the next 2 turns I’m almost certainly toast.

After some thought, I’ve patrolled so he can’t trade in his Cadet or Lobbers until he’s already killed the Treant, which should hopefully maximise the number of surviving units I can trap with Ready or Not (if I manage to draw one). Also want to make anti-Immortal spells costly, and then that leaves Panda in Scavenger over Technician to avoid any Sparkshot.

Phew again. Nice draw. I really hope this works out as planned.

Okay, we’re okay but it’s definitely gonna come down to the draws next turn. If he has Temporal Distortion and snatches a Tricycloid, that’s the worst case scenario for us, I think. Let’s see, he can use the Immortal to kill the Squad Leader and then trade the Panda into either one of the remaining patrollers. From there, he can use Temporal Distortion to put the Immortal back in hand and fetch a Tricycloid to ping the last Patroller to death. If he also has Now! then he can destroy one of my tech buildings and go ham from there. He could also maxband Geiger to achieve a similar thing if he doesn’t have Now! in hand. Yipes. I guess we’re hoping against Temporal Distortion which is a bet that I certainly wouldn’t take. Let’s see if we’ve lost!

Quite pleased with this turn, and now I’m set up for some very nasty Geiger shenanigans. I expect maxband Oni here alongside whatever units he draws. Hopefully his tech plan means he’s loaded up on Spells and Tech II so doesn’t have a lot to work with.

Finally getting to demonstrate some of the stuff this deck can do. The sudden double tech break should lock him out of nearly everything next turn. With only Timely Messenger available as a hasted unit, the one way he kills a backline Geiger is with Flame Arrow, so I’m hoping he simply doesn’t have that spell in hand. Seeding in a single Hyperion to help improve my draw into immediate impact without overbloating my deck.

Ooft what a draw!

Thoughts

Felt I pretty much had to play the Hyperion and then see what I got. I didn’t really have the gold reserve to make use of the R&D I drew so decided to pass on it to focus on setting up a maxband Drakk for next turn.

@flagrantangles’s turn!

GG as always @flagrantangles! I really how back and forth this game felt. That early game pressure you brought was really strong. Thankfully I had just enough answers to get my Tech II up on time :sweat_smile:

Your Wrecking Crew is such a fun thematic deck to play against. Hope you do well in the rest of the tournament!

@zhavier I have avoided demolition!
