Right, Nullcraft. I think I can just hit it with Sacrifice the Weak, and Tech up. I could play Thieving Imp instead, but I’d rather deal with the Nullcraft now. Holding onto the gold, since Vandy in Elite should be enough to dissuade Onimaru, unless zhavier doesn’t mind trading. Or I could build a Tech Lab, and hedge my bets between virtuosos and Terras Q. I’ll hang onto it for now, see if I can get double Fencers next turn.

I’d like to go for Nimble Fencers, but Fading Argonaut might make that a pain if I want to push through. I’ll go for it anyway. The possibility of double Fencers and midband Vandy / Zane should be OK for something.

Thoughts

I’m tempted to just bring out maxband Zane and kill Onimaru, given the Tech I skip, but I would be skipping a worker. That avoids having to deal with Art of War etc., but, if zhavier’s holding Battle Suits, he can destroy my Tech I afterwards, and then I’m a worker behind with no tech advantage. I can’t imagine that this hasn’t occurred to zhavier, so I have to assume that he’s holding it.

Instead, I could play a little safer, with Fencer + hero + Deteriorate + Javelineer + Haunt. That puts me down on cards, but I can take out one of the Soldiers. However, the remaining two will trade with the Fencer, and Onimaru can kill the Javelineer, or destroy my Tech I with Art of War, or kill my hero if zhavier’s also holding Nullcraft. That might actually leave me in a worse position than just blasting out Zane. Let’s go with Zane, then.

It’s going to be a while before I can tech up, and I’d like a bit more information about what zhavier’s doing, so I’ll go for spells. Discord is generally pretty useful. Surprise Attack is another option, but I’d want to deal with those soldiers first. Maybe a Starlet? I don’t think that locks me into Finesse II too heavily, if zhavier goes for Peace then I’ll need help to thin down the horde. On the other hand, double Discord is a bit more reliable for dealing with Hives, and for setting up Terras Q. I’ll go with double Discord.

Thoughts

With Discord incoming, I don’t care about Soldiers / Nullcraft, as long as I can keep my Tech I up this turn. Elite Training allows 6 attack, Boot Camp allows 4 damage + sideline with still teching up, so I should be OK with two patrollers. That does allow the back patroller to be killed, so I can’t risk bringing River in just yet. That means Imp + Fencer.

Still not sure what to expect for zhavier’s spec. Would he think his chances are better with Future air, or the Peace engine? Hive isn’t a problem with Discord, but Void Star could be. Peace engine is a problem with Discord either way. Let’s play around Peace, then.

  • Both block or outpace Gunships, so Anarchy’s out as a main.
  • Finesse lets me switch to Lizards or Sprites if Future comes out, and Maestro can help to take out Garrisons past the patrol.
  • Demonology would mostly be for Terras Q, whose obliterate helps a bit against Peace, but Banefire Golem could be really nice with Discord against Peace, if I get some breathing room to feed it.

I’ll go with Terras Q + Starlet, then I’ve got some aggression and some set-up. It also gives me plenty of hasted virtuosos to abuse Chaos Mirror with.

EDIT: I’m a fool, Battle Suits is an obvious sign that zhavier’s going for Peace. Discord and virtusos are hopefully enough aggression to stall that.

Zane into River + Discord would wipe zhavier’s patrol, but I could also do Graveyard/Zane and tech up. I like the look of Zane, since it kills Garth and leaves zhavier with two 1/1s that can’t destroy even the Tech I without help. If he’s got Garrison + Elite Training in hand, he’ll be conflicted between paying to bring in Onimaru for the buff and flooding the board.

Evidently so! I’ll call it there, skipping a worker for the early Onimaru kill meant I couldn’t get to Terras Q quickly enough to deal with the Peace engine. GG! @FrozenStorm

Terras Q is pretty scary! Chaos Mirror Terras is pretty powerful, but honestly, without 10g floating around, or the appropriate heroes already out, he’s a lot less scary.
