Thoughts

Given that I’m up against Necromancy, I want my tech 0 units to not be Indestructible, in case Vir ever gets a Mech into play, not to mention Mox is vulnerable to FF if I try to patrol and isn’t really threatening without Suits which would be awkward… but maybe a tug-of-war is worth opting into, hard to say On that note, I want to ensure that Garth doesn’t have the opportunity to juggle maxbands between his other heroes… Need to pair a hero with Plasm for defense, best to SQL in case of Suits or Nullcraft… going with Vir to threaten FF, Spiral, and Assimilate. Assimilate in particular will hopefully make it more difficult for him to play a non-Vir hero, esp. Garth.

Thoughts

Stewardess appears to have good short-term and long-term value, considering I’m up against Necro. Patrolling as Elite to protect against FF, Nullcraft shouldn’t be enough to allow him to kill Vir, and I kinda doubt he’ll go Battle Suits, but we’ll see.

So he really went and did it. Alright, then. Assimilate tug-of-war, get! This does put me in a tight spot, though, especially because I don’t want to bounce something that’s about to fade out. I suppose I could drop Nullcraft, ping something, then bounce it, but that’s really inefficient. Probably better to just take the lumps and plan for a comeback. Going with Past for cheap, disposable/replayable units, kinda doubt the building’ll survive next turn tho, so aiming for spells in the short-term, hopefully I’ll be able to slip the Plasm past his defenses next turn.

Using Prynn’s maxband to remove Nullcraft really feels like overkill, but the pest will be a real problem if left alone, and Stewardess isn’t gonna be much help against it. Gonna go ahead and opt in to Garrisons now with my cycle growing… will try to figure how to manage them later. Upon review, I am fairly certain I could have won on T7, but failed to see the line of play because i was thinking too hard about Prynn. My Peek revealed Omegacron was on top, and I just didnt think about it as being a win. Silly me! Hard fought game though!

Yeah, I was worried about Omegacron and was trying to maintain enough board presence so there would be some patroller to get in its way, but I just kinda floundered from the midgame onward. I expected you to worker Battle Suits given that it could lead to an Assimilate tug-of-war and I had the P2 econ advantage, but you capitalized well on the tempo advantage dropping it on T3 gave you, and I just wasn’t able to recover. GG WP!

I was worried you would play out a bunch of knights and cadets, then turn around and assimilate AND play your own, but it turned out both our assimilates went to waste as tech choices. I reasoned forcing the early assimilate tech would force you to focus on Vir, and made you spend 3g to deal with my 2g card.

I see that your deck is aiming for the ebbflow/garrison combo, but giving me the garrison seemed like the same problem as giving you the battle suits, except thats an even gold trade.

Using Assimilate on Battle Suits is actually a good value play, because it costs the opponent a $2 card and gives you one, for a total swing of $4 at the cost of $3, which is part of why I expected you to avoid it… and after you played it, I really wanted to steal it from you, but I just never found a good opportunity. In hindsight, maybe I should have just gone for the Peace engine straight away and spammed Assimilate, trusting the extra worker to carry me through, but I was worried about being at a disadvantage for being the player to spend teched cards on the Garrisons. Regardless, I think a lot of the difficulty I had resulted from teching both Stewardesses on T2 and your wise decision to avoid fielding tech 0 units from T3 onward.
